Senior Day Trip Ideas: King Tut returns to NYC!
One of the largest and most amazing exhibits, “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs”, opened this week at Discovery Times Square Exposition in New York City. The exhibit shows the world of King Tut and is one of the most perfect trips for seniors; entertaining, educational and easy on the wallet.
The exhibit has not been in New York City since 1979. It was then called “The Treasures of Tutankhamun” and was in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibit now in New York has twice the number of exhibits of its 1970s counterpart and was moved to its current location due to economic, pragmatic and security concerns, according to John Norman, president of Arts & Exhibitions International. This is the final U.S. stop of the King Tut exhibits trip and will be housed in NYC until January 2011. It includes:
- More than 130 rare artifacts, 50 from King Tut’s tomb
- Items used for royal burials
- Daily life artifacts
- King Tut’s viscera coffin
- Containers for King Tut’s mummified liver
- King Tut’s chariot
- A specific exhibition on new DNA that may unlock more discoveries on the royal family
- 11 galleries divided into 2 segments
Trips for seniors that are mentally stimulating as well as affordable are not easy to come by. This senior day trip combines those attributes into a day in one of the most interesting cities in the country! The King Tut exhibit is only one of the many trips seniors’ trips available in NYC. Guided tours through the city are some of the best ways of transportation. However, don’t forget important safety tips for seniors when traveling on public transportation. There are also countless museums, restaurants and shopping opportunities to make trips for seniors into NYC a memorable and full day.
The King Tut exhibit is a fascinating one because there is still information being established about him and his family; more specifically about the way they died. King Tut died when he was a young man around 18-19. His mummified remains have been undergoing extensive scientific tests, including a CT scan that showed damage to King Tut’s skull occurred postmortem, disproving murder as a cause of death.
